Chandigarh, 20^th March 2022: Indian team stars – Vishesh Bhriguvanshi and Amritpal Singh eased into the knockout stages of the 3BL Men’s League Finale. ‘3BL’, the only 3X3 Professional Basketball League in India is backed by the Basketball Federation of India and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Besides Bhriguvanshi & Amritpal’s Ahmedabad Wingers, seven other teams, including defending champions Gurugram Masters, have also progressed to the quarterfinals. The third season of 3BL is being played at the Hotel Wyndham Chandigarh Mohali from 8^th – 21^st March 2022 and is seeing participation from top national and international men’s and women’s 3X3 basketball players. 

Top teams through to quarterfinals

Ahmedabad Wingers, Gurugram Masters, Bangalore Machas and Mumbai Heroes topped their respective pools, while Chennai Icon, Delhi Hoopers, Lucknow Ligers and Goa Snipers qualified to the knockout round as second placed teams.

Princepal Singh faces off against Spain’s #1 ranked 3×3 Player

Early on in the pool stages, continuing their intense rivalry from the previous rounds, Indian national team power forward Princepal Singh (who has also played in NBA’s minor league), faced off against Mumbai Heroes’ Carlos Martinez. As per the latest FIBA rankings, Martinez is the top rated 3×3 player in Spain. The game lived up to expectations, with Heroes beating Princepal’s Hyderabad Ballers by the most slender 21-20 margin. 

Four Teams Eliminated

Hyderabad Ballers would follow their loss to Mumbai Heroes with a defeat to Goa Snipers. In the process Hyderabad joined Kolkata Warriors, Aizawl Legends and Chandigarh Beasts as the four teams to get eliminated at the group stages itself. 

Former NBA player in attendance

Greivis Vásquez, a former Venezuelan national team player, who spent six seasons in the NBA, was in attendance. “I’m happy to be here. I love this country. I love these players. I love what [Commissioner] Rohit [Bakshi] is doing with 3BL. This [3BL] is the best way to love basketball.”
